During the summer, the town also has a number of boat trips available. The tours take about an hour and you’ll get some great photo opportunities of both Beachy Head and the local coast. The round trips will start at Eastbourne’s port and then head out to the Beachy Head peninsular before returning to port again.

3.  Scone Palace – The Earls of Mansfield have the pleasure of living in this global tourist attraction. Some fifteen hundred years ago, Scone Palace was the capital town of the Pictish Kingdom and was also the Celtic Church’s center. It has been a seat for ancient parliaments and place where kings have been crowned it also once housed the Stone of Destiny. Shakespeare made sure that the palace would be remembered when he wrote about it in Macbeth.

4.  Kinnoull Tower – This is also located close to the town of Perth and can easily be reached by car or public transport. It is located on the summit of Kinnoull Hill and was commissioned by the ninth Earl of Kinnoull. It is an imitation of many of the castles that you will find along the banks of the River Rhine in Germany.

Llandudno in Wales is one of the country’s premier holiday resorts and is found on the northern coast of Conwy. Because of this, there are lots of attractions in Llandudno that can be enjoyed by everyone in the family whilst visiting this pleasant seaside town.

The town itself lies between two very carboniferous headlands known as Great Orme and Little Orme. The town faces the Irish Sea on one side and the estuary of the River Conwy on the other. Between these headlands and the western and northern shores, the town has much to offer tourists.

The Great Orme is over 680 feet high and here you will find Tudno Church, Great Orme’s copper minds and you can take the Llandudno Tramway to it.  The hill is also home to a flock of Kashmiri goats whose ancestors were a gift to the Queen Victoria from the Shah of Persia (now Iran). 

As you’d expect, Little Orme is smaller, this only rises 463 feet above Llandudno Bay and makes a good viewpoint to see it’s cousin Great Orme, Anglesey and even across to Snowdonia. Its cliff face offers bird spotters the chance to see razorbills and cormorants. It is also in one of its caves that during the 1580’s a printing press was housed in order that Catholic prayers and other tracts were able to be produced. 

In the town, you will find The Alice in Wonderland Centre where one can enter through the Rabbit Hole and visit the world of Alice along with the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. Llandudno was chosen to host the museum as Alice Liddel lived in the town as a child. 

Another of the most popular attractions in this town is its Pier. The pier can trace its history back to 1878 and was built in just 12 months. As you stroll along the length of the pier, you will see a variety of ornately decorated small buildings that are home to a bar, cafe and traditional amusements. There are also gift shops if you’re on a hunt for souvenirs.

In the summer season, the Isle of Man Steam Packet launches from the pier. You can choose to sail across to the Isle of Man on your own or as part of one of the organized trips. Over the years, the pier has been extended and now stretches 695 meters out to sea.

The town of Falmouth in Cornwall is found on the River Fal and is located on Cornwall’s south coast. The actor Will Hay stayed in the town as far back as 1935 whilst he took part in the filming of “Windbag the Sailor”. Then in 1948, it was used as a backdrop for some of the scenes featuring Sir John Mills during the filming of Scott of the Antarctic. In addition, Disney used the town as part of its filming of Treasure Island.

Colchester is the biggest town in Essex. It lays claim to being the oldest settlement in the whole of Britain and is certainly the oldest recorded Roman town in England. Due to its long history, there are lots of attractions in Colchester, which you can explore when you visit the town. In this article, we look at just a few which may be worth considering visiting when you visit Colchester.

1.  Balkerne Gate – The most complete Roman gateway in the country and is believed to have been built at around 55AD. It was originally actually the main way that visitors would enter the town but over time was then transformed into a triumphal arch instead. Then, later, the gateway was merged into the town’s walls before it was blocked up some four hundred years later in 465AD in order to help strengthen the defences of the town. The actual gate itself was only uncovered some 100 years ago and this is why it has remained in such good condition that you see today.

2.  Charter Market – This is believed to be the oldest recorded market in the UK and has been a regular feature of the town for over 800 years. King John granted the market its Rotal Charter back in 1189 and is where it gets its name from. You can still find a market at Charter Market twice a week, on Fridays and Saturdays and there is a wider than normal variety of goods as the charter prevents more than one stall selling the same item. 

3.  Colchester Castle – This Norman castle is built on the foundations of what was the Roman Temple to Claudius. But, the Roman temple was smashed to pieces in 60 AD when Queen Boudica razed the town to the ground in order to get the Romans to leave. The Normans re-used the stone to make the current castle which means the fabric of the building dates back to the Romans. 

This castle now has one of the oldest and largest of all castle keeps in the whole of Europe and within the castles walls there is much to do and see. There are a number of exhibitions in the castle, which span more than 2,000 years of British history and there are interactive displays to keep your youngsters busy. 4.  Colchester Zoo – One of Europe’s finest zoos located a short drive from Colchester. Located in around sixty acres of English countryside the zoo has more than 200 species of animal for you to look at. Naturally, the elephants can be found in Elephant Kingdom, there are the chimpanzees in Chimp World to enjoy. Also you’ll find the other bits of the zoo just as enthralling. As with any zoo, you’ll almost certainly find yourself spending lots of time here.

If you get a sense of deja-vu, you know this building from somewhere then you do as the cathedral has been used as a location for the Harry Potter movies.

Another place that many people like to spend time in when visiting the city of Gloucester is its park. This is located very close to the heart of the city and was probably the first park to be developed. Along with plenty of space for children to play and you may decide to have a picnic on a lazy summer afternoon. The park is host to a number of different events during the summer. A quick visit to the Park’s Information Office which is located in a cottage that dates back to Tudor times and will keep you informed about all the current events.

Another place that you’ll almost certainly want to see when you come to Gloucester is Blackfriars. This Dominican Priory is the oldest one in England.  Although it hasn’t been a friary since 1538, Thomas Bell bought the buildings for himself. He had part of the monastery converted into a home and the rest of the property into a factory which made clothes locally. At certain times of the year English Heritage now offer guided tours around the property.

Brighton weekend breaks are popular with not only people in the United Kingdom but those visitors from around the world also. Located on England’s south coast, Brighton is one of the UK’s largest seaside resorts.

The town originally known as Brighthelmston dates back to well before the Domesday Book of 1086. However, the town’s significance as a health spa only really happened in the 1700’s. It started to become more popular with visitors thinking about spending a day by the seaside as the railway came to it in 1841. Indeed, in the 18th and 19th centuries, Brighton was home to much of the era’s aristocracy.

Actually, when you look back in history during the 16th Century Brighton was only a tiny fishing village with around 1,500 residents, dotted around in small cottages. There are still examples of these buildings to be found in The Lanes. But things drastically began to change in the 17th Century because Dr Richard Russell from the nearby town of Lewes started to extol the virtues of using seawater for treating glandular diseases.

From 1750 onwards the town started to fill with visitors who wanted to test the sea water to see if it really could help them. Furthermore the town became even more popular once members of the UK’s Royal Family decided to try the waters and also bathe in the sea.

Nowadays, Brighton sees over eight million people a year visit and they don’t just come to sample the sea air.
